This is a wine which shows both density and sharp precision. The flavors range from lemon and lemon peel to flower blossoms, nectarine, white peach, quince and apricot. There is zingy tartness as well as round and chewy elements in this complex Riesling. Some lightly singed fruit peel, minerality and stone combines with lime as well. Quality farming and winemaking is evident.

This is high quality Gruner Veltliner with more density and depth than an entry level wine. It is succulent and juicy with attractive florality and notes of fennel, white peach, almond paste and coriander. The texture is waxy-creamy, yet still zippy.

This Chardonnay is not oaky at all. It gives flavors of lemon and a touch of butter and cream with some minerality. It is bright and engergetic with a lovely texture. It is lower in alcohol and calories, so drink it guilt-free!

This is a complex and layered wine aromatically and texturally. Glazed lemons and orange slices with some apricot aromatically. The texture has lovely acidity and medium plus body. The fruit flavors are rich but perfectly balanced and delivering apricot, candied pear, guava and lychee.

This unoaked Chardonnay offers fresh flavors of pineapple and grilled peaches with nice acidity to keep the palate lifted. The texture is attractive with both freshness and a broad mouthfeel. It finishes with glazed citrus and sweet snap pea.

Medium aromatics with notes of mixed berries and crushed rocks. The palate is nicely integrated with a combination of red, purple, and black fruits with harmonious acidity and medium tannins. It is elegant reflecting the cooler high altitude site, with ripe (but not overripe) bing cherries, plums and blackberries.

This wine is ruby red with purple highlights. Fresh and fruity, it is a perfect sipper and refreshing even in warmer weather (try it with a slight chill!). The nose shows red berry, blue fruit, and spice, while the palate is medium bodied with food-friendly acidity.

Earthy aromas include bramble, mineral, garrigue, smoke, berry coolis and plum.  The palate is medium-plus in body with nice ripeness but not too heavy or overoaked. The finish in this delicious "baby Barolo" is long and structured.

A classically made dark fruited Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa power couple Andy Erickson and Annie Favia. The nose is incredibly complex with cassis, plum, cola nut, black cherry, black pepper, and espresso. In the mouth the wine is well balanced and combines the fruit further with dark chocolate integrated fine tannins. While delicious now, it will continue to evolve in the cellar and shine fully in 2 - 5 years!

Les Hérétiques is a rustic wine, speaking strongly of its terroir. The nose offers spice, cedar, and black cherry fruit, and touches of iron/earth. The tannins are quite present but well-integrated with more black cherries, spice and a lingering meaty quality.

This is an excellent value with it’s complex aromas of smoke, earth, forest floor, tobacco, dark cherry, raspberry, pipe tobacco and ripe and baked berry pie. The flavors are repeated on the palate and deliver some more toast and cigar box, with rusticity and black pepper. It is medium plus in body with medium acid.

Raspberry, strawberry and red cherry with some garrigue. The palate is medium bodied but ripe and savory with soft dark chocolate, integrated smoke and some black pepper.

Aromas include ripe dark cherry, cinnamon, stewed tomatoes and wood spice. Silky tannins support this savory and robust wine; flavors echo aromas with touches of black fruits added. The finish is long with hints of stony minerality.

Our notes: Aromas are of plum, black cherry, earth and truffle. This is medium weight with black cherry, raspberry and plum fruit that's ripe, not tart. It is fresh with mostly pure fruit and a touch of cooked as well. There are hints of orange, cinnamon and chalk. Tannins are nicely rounded. From the producer: The beautiful deep ruby-violet colors of the Pinot Noir wine give way to aromas of very ripe red fruits (cherry, blackberry and raspberry). The nose is intense and well integrated, with aromas of cooked red fruits and roasted coffee beans. There are also hints of graphite and cinnamon. Very round and smooth on the attack, with tight tannins on the palate. In the mouth come flavors of smoke and prune. This wine is ready to drink, but could also be kept for some years.

The aromas express themselves with elegance, releasing delicate floral and volatile notes, peony, mingling with greedy aromas of strawberry, black fruit and chocolate. Rich scents of violets, rose petals, black and red cherries, and so much blueberry! Additional aromas of licorice, black pepper and minerality lead to flavors of  plums, balanced by structuring, fresh acidity and minerality.  It is medium body with a medium finish. The palate is fresh, and has savory dried herbs with some soil notes. The tannins are soft, with round and silky texture that is thoroughly ripe but not heavy and very juicy.

Aromas are big, smoky, and spicy with blackberry, dark chocolate, and a hint of licorice. The palate has a nice lift and acidity, with flavors that match the aromas, including the pepper and blackberry. Medium plus in body with a persistent finish. The wine spends a year in American and French oak, with a further four months in bottle.

Dark stewed fruit of  blackberry and black currant introduce the wine. Fresh, ripe, and lightly smoky black fruits are balanced with a nice backbone of medium-plus acidity and touches of earth. Raspberry and plum notes emerge with time. This is medium bodied and lifted, making it a flavorful summer red.

This is such an appealing wine with aromas darker fruit than the last vintage with black fruits (currants, boysenberry, and blueberry) with a touch of florality spring from the nose of unique Mediterranean grape. The wine is medium weight with red and purple fruits, plums, blueberries and rose petals. It is fresh, unique, appealing, fragrant, food-friendly, soft and accessible. The tannins are light to medium weight with crisp acidity.

Notes of stewed dark berries and graphite unfold from the glass. Round tannins balance nicely with medium acidity while rich, ripe dark berries mingle seamlessly on the palate with coffee and dark chocolate flavors. Hints of graphite and pencil lead linger through the finish and add depth to the wine.

This medium-plus bodied wine shows nice ripeness and yet it also has freshness. There are notes of raspberry, cherry, cinnamon, garrigue and spices, and some acidity keeps it lifted. One can drink it now or enjoy it until 2030.

This is a savory wine with structure and black fruit. There are tar-like earth aromas and floral notes with classic red cherry, raspberry and plum. The palate is not tart but has good cool-climate acidity; it is medium weight with medium-plus tannins.

On the nose this wine has Moroccan spices, wet stone, smoke and black fruit like plum and blackberry. The nose is fruit forward with ripe black cherry, strawberry coulis and spiced raspberry notes. On the palate, this wine is extremely supple and seamless, yet has structuring acidity. The ripeness continues with black cherry and black cap raspberry fruit. A gulpable, soft and plus red in a liter bottle!

Pale looking in the glass, this wine is ripe with integrated tannins and medium acidity. Flavors and aromas are similar with interesting layers of savory bark, sassafras, truffles, and light toast to blend with cranberry, red cherry, and slight milk chocolate. The finish is long and the cherry notes fade pleasantly.

This is a rich black-fruited Monastrell with concentrated aromas of elderberry, black plum, cassis, and a touch of licorice. The palate offers blackberry pie and is almost port-like in richness, yet touches of tomato leaf and coffee linger on the longer finish.

Attractive red jam fruits are still dry in this Zinfandel-based wine which has nice purity and finesse, as well as velvety tannins. It has medium acidity or even more, giving it good balance. There's plenty of flavor here, including a little brambly note.

The 2019 Sinister Hand displays spicy, dark, and savory characteristics. The exuberant nose has raspberry aromas with a hint of vanilla, while the lively palate has a soft juicy texture and a well-balanced acidity. Chewy tannins, black cherry, and a hint of toasty French oak round out the vibrant finish.

Aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, smoke, dried herbs and graphite. It is medium in body with smooth tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is medium with black raspberry notes. This is a textbook Blaufrankisch that can be served chilled.

You’ll find smoky aromas with black currant and black cherry fruit as well as some barrel notes. Less smoky in the mouth, this gives pure black cherry fruit along with light toast and minerality. Its medium weight with smooth tannins and great balance, showing both ripeness and some lifting, tart black fruits.

Classic Pinot Noir nose—rose, cherry, red currant, plum, raspberry and dusty earth—lead to a juicy palate with moderate acidity and good ripeness. Raspberries and their seeds join touches of herb, a lightly fleshy texture, and a long finish. Approachable with or without food, well balanced and with excellent typicity.

Aromas of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, and light earth unfold from the glass. On the palate, fruit flavors of cherry, raspberry and red plum mingle with a light herbal note. The wine is medium-bodied, nicely ripe and slightly rounded, yet clean, pure and fresh. It’s particularly refreshing for summer sipping!

From the producer: Blackberry, bacon, graphite, blueberry, rose. With the 2021 vintage, I have reverted to the intrinsic character of my first Côtes du Rhône from 1997 to 2000. This intense, energetic Syrah with its crimson hue is fresh with ‘espressivo cantabile’ aromas of red berry fruits and a rounded palate.

A medium bouquet of red currants and cherries with cooked or concentrated raspberries and earth. The palate is sleek and supple with cherry, soil and plum. This wine is super fresh and yet deep with very fine and complex tannins and structure.

The nose offers light raspberry and forest underbrush, with food-friendly acidity and structure on the palate. There is nothing unripe or overripe on the palate but there is good density and concentration.

This wine is complex with tertiary notes that layer with wood spice, touches of earth, dried mushrooms, plums and black cherries. The palate echoes the aromas with savory flavors that support its structure making it a lovely wine for just sipping or pairing with food. This wine has medium acidity on its medium frame and it plush without being rich. 

One of the leading domaines in Bandol, Domaine Tempier is, without a doubt, the most visible producer from the appellation in the U.S. marketplace today. I think this is well-deserved (and a good thing for Bandol), as the wines are at the top of the hierarchy in terms of quality. The estate has been in the Peyraud family for generations and has a long, storied history that’s beautifully documented in Kermit Lynch’s newsletters and book, Adventures on the Wine Route (an absolute must read for any wine lover). Concentrated and rich fruit scents of cassis, blackberry and blueberry with black tea and licorice. It is supple in texture with velvety tannins on a medium plus frame with medium acidity. Stewed black and red cherries, but not overripe are accompanied by a touch of smoke. Flavors of juicy blackberry, black cherries, and dates follow through to spices and dried herbs on the long finish.

The nose offers pretty red fruits of cherry and raspberry, along with hints of truffle. This pale-colored Pinot Noir is light to medium weight, yet completely on point with its grape varietal and terroir. Red fruits of strawberry and raspberry join with spicy cinnamon notes in this clean, crisp, food-friendly red.

Aromas include baking spice, leather and freshly turned earth.  On the palate, this fuller-bodied wine offers dense, dark fruit flavors supported by savory earthy/meaty notes and more cigar spice lingering on the complex finish.

Aromatics of macerated blackberries, cocoa, and a hint of licorice. This is very smoothly textured, ripe and spicy with dark berries, plum, black pepper, dark chocolate, integrated tannins and an appealing meatiness. It is fuller bodied and warming.

On the nose, one finds clove, black pepper, dark, concentrated berry pie fruits and subtle smokiness. This wine is full bodied and full flavored with hearty winter notes of baked berries, cherry pie, kirsch, mulling spices, toast and spiced fruit preserves. It is rich and concentrated, yet easy to drink due to its round texture and balanced acidity.

Aromas reminiscent of the Old World with a fresh spin; think tart red fruit, minerality, forest floor, wood spice and a savory character. On the palate it has more New World flavors: blackberry, vanilla, baking spice, and bittersweet cocoa. It is complex, supple, and tasty.

This red begins with dark fruits like damson plum mixed with a touch of spice, sandalwood, graphite, wet stone, smoke and earth. It is between medium and full bodied with ripe plum, black cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit that is rich and nicely integrated with rounded tannins. Savory earth and graphite flavors add complexity.

This deeply colored wine offers powerful aromas of mulberry, mocha, sweet wood, and damson plum. In the mouth, it is juicy with moderate plus acidity. The aromas are echoed in the flavors—plum, dark chocolate, smoke, mulberry, and sweet wood. Tannins are fine-grained and nearly invisible, but they provide just enough structure. It is medium plus in body and length.

This is quite aromatic, offering sweet wood, dark fruit--blackberry, blueberry, spiced cherry, plum--and cedar, all nicely integrated, with each sniff providing something more and different. The palate is equally integrated and complex. The fine tannins and moderate acidity are lovely, supporting and melding with the fruit. The fruit itself is dark berries, patient and thorough, subtle and a real presence. This is a wine one wants always on the wine rack to be enjoyed again and again. Cassis, dusty red fruit, cured meat, and old world spice round out the complex nose. In the glass the Montepulciano bursts with splendid tart red and black fruit. The wine is medium plus body with integrated grippy tannins.

Aromas of red and black currants, smoke and black pepper are classic for this variety.  This is medium in weight with blackberries, plums, espresso and lingering wood smoke. The fine tannins, integrated acidity and forward fruit make this an accessible wine.

This medium to lighted bodied red offers red cherry and strawberry fruit along with notes of mineral, stone and light spice. The fruit is fresh and you'll find fine to medium tannins that provide structure.

Aromas of black cherry, earth and faint smoke lead to a medium weight Cabernet Franc with black berry and black cherry fruit that is fresh, pure and slightly candied, with a touch of minerality. This has moderate acidity and a very fine texture.

This bold red features rich, smoky black fruits such as currants and blackberries along with graphite, dark chocolate, toast, black pepper and singed herbs. It is full-bodied with velvety tannins and integrated acidity.

In this bottling from Yves Leccia, the French import Grenache—called Elegante in Corsica—takes center stage, offering fragrant notes of lavender spiced with balmy Mediterranean brush. A splash of the indigenous Niellucciu completes the blend, adding some muscle to this savory, floral red whose sunny island flavors come into focus when slightly chilled.

The aromas and flavors of this wine are abundant and complex. Pleasurable black fruits and notes of baking spice and chocolate accompany light smoke. Bold with round, ripe, suave tannins and juicy acidity, this is medium bodied but stays lip smacking with its juiciness. Secondary flavors of licorice, black cherry, chocolate, lead, blueberry and a touch of black pepper. The Zorzal Malbec is well-integrated and extremely enjoyable.

Off all of South Hill ciders this one has more earthy and woodsy aromas. It begins with minerality and apple blossom with tart granny smith acid. The palate has a touch of honey and bitter grapefruit mingle with crisp tannins and long finish.
